I like Avalon. It's a
live action science fiction film by Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell,
Patlabor movies) with Polish language dialogue, interestingly enough.
It started playing at a function of the local anime club, but they turned
it off after a while. I tracked down a bootleg subbed version, since I
figured it'd never come out in North America, and then of course it was
put out here a few months later, so I picked that copy up too. The movie
is a little slow and repetitive at parts, but that's not a problem for me.
Anyway, I liked the sound of this Enya song, and thought it sounded
like a war anthem or something, despite the Latin lyrics being about the
seasons. So I set the movie to the song. At one point I thought of using
the Record of Lodoss War OVA, but I like this video source much better.
The monochromatic nature of the scenes is part of the original movie, it's
not an added effect. Other special effects are also part of the original
footage, since the movie depicts a video game.
